Prawn Curry:
A popular dish made with spicy tomato-based gravy and prawns. It is usually served with rice or bread.
Ingredients:
- 500g prawns, peeled and deveined
- 2 onions, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 cup water
- Coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Add ginger and garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell goes away.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy and the oil starts to separate.
- Add cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
- Add prawns and mix well with the spice mixture. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the prawns start to turn pink.
- Add water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan with a lid. Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the prawns are cooked through and the gravy thickens.
- Add garam masala and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or bread
Tips:
- Use fresh Chennai Sandhai prawns for the best flavor and texture.
- You can add more or less chili powder according to your spice tolerance.
- For a creamier curry, add coconut milk or heavy cream towards the end of the cooking process.
