Prawn Curry:

A popular dish made with spicy tomato-based gravy and prawns. It is usually served with rice or bread.

Ingredients:

  • 500g prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup water
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  2. Add ginger and garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell goes away.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy and the oil starts to separate.
  4. Add cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
  5. Add prawns and mix well with the spice mixture. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the prawns start to turn pink.
  6. Add water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan with a lid. Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the prawns are cooked through and the gravy thickens.
  7. Add garam masala and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or bread

Tips:
  • Use fresh Chennai Sandhai prawns for the best flavor and texture.
  • You can add more or less chili powder according to your spice tolerance.
  • For a creamier curry, add coconut milk or heavy cream towards the end of the cooking process.
